Iowa Unemployment Calculator: Max $644/Week + Dependents
In Iowa, unemployment pays up to $644 a week before dependent allowances for up to 16 weeks; your weekly amount is your highest quarter divided by 19 to 23, depending on dependents.

How Iowa works out your amount
Iowa July 2026: divide the high quarter by 23–19 for zero–four approved dependents, capped at $644–$790. Check $2,210 in one quarter, $1,110 in another and total wages of 1.25 times the high quarter. Fractional weekly amounts need the IWD award to resolve rounding. Select the confirmed ordinary or business-closing account type.
Weekly earnings reduction is not modeled here unless your state source gives a rule. Optional withholding is separate from the gross estimate.
The Iowa Workforce Development decides eligibility, base-period wages, payable weeks, reductions, withholding and the final award. Use the official record below to verify this scenario.
Iowa: July 2026: $2,210 in one quarter, $1,110 in another, and total wages at least 1.25 times the high quarter. Dependent divisors and caps, ordinary 16-week accounts and approved closing accounts. Fractional weekly amounts need IWD confirmation; balances are estimated. July 2026 Iowa benefits depend on the approved dependent count
Iowa Workforce Development publishes the following schedule for new claims effective July 5, 2026. Earlier claims keep their applicable earlier schedule.
| Approved dependents | Divide highest-quarter wages by | Weekly maximum |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 23 | $644 |
| 1 | 22 | $668 |
| 2 | 21 | $692 |
| 3 | 20 | $729 |
| 4 | 19 | $790 |
Enter zero when no dependents are approved. A blank count stays unknown. Dependents affect both the divisor and cap; this is not a fixed dollar allowance added for each child.
IWD generally uses dependents from the prior year's tax return, with a maximum of four and a ten-day window to add them after filing. A spouse can qualify under the separate $120 previous-week wage limit. Another active claim cannot use the same dependent. Confirm the approved count on the monetary record.
Three monetary conditions must pass
For this current schedule, at least one covered wage quarter must reach $2,210, a different quarter must reach $1,110, and total base-period wages must be at least 1.25 times the highest quarter. Meeting the high-quarter minimum alone is insufficient.
A record of $4,600, $2,300, zero and zero passes: two quarters meet their respective minimums and the $6,900 total exceeds $5,750, or 1.25 times $4,600. With zero approved dependents, dividing $4,600 by 23 gives exactly $200 weekly.
At $2,210 in one quarter and $1,110 in another, the current quarter minimums are met exactly. Reducing either qualifying quarter by one cent can fail its independent test. A $10,000 high quarter and $2,500 second quarter meet the ratio exactly; $2,499.99 in that second quarter falls short even though both quarter minimums are passed.
Use the base period IWD accepted, normally the four completed quarters that precede the most recent one. If that regular period does not qualify, ask IWD about an alternate period. Blank inputs do not become zero wages. The worksheet covers ordinary state-covered wages, not separate federal or military claim restrictions.
Fractional formula results need the monetary record
The current statute and agency handbook state the dependent divisors and explicitly round the maximum schedule downward. The reviewed sources do not clearly establish the rounding rule for every individual's full-week fractional formula amount. A separate partial-unemployment rounding rule is not used to invent that full-week rule.
The worksheet shows the formula to two decimal places, separately from the final weekly award. Exact whole-dollar results and capped amounts can be modeled directly. When the individual formula is fractional, enter the IWD-confirmed weekly award from the monetary record to resolve payments. A supplied amount inconsistent with the adjacent whole-dollar formula results remains unresolved.
For the $4,600 high-quarter example, zero dependents gives an exact $200. Four dependents produces approximately $242.11 before award rounding. That fractional example does not become an invented $242 or $243 official payment. The confirmation field lets you model the amount IWD actually awarded.
Ordinary claims have a 16-week ceiling and wage-limited balance
The ordinary maximum benefit account is the smaller of 16 weekly amounts and one-third of total base-period wages. The $200 example has 16 times $200, or $3,200, but one-third of $6,900 is only $2,300. The estimated account is therefore $2,300. Ten modeled full weeks draw $2,000; a requested twelve-week draw cannot exceed that smaller account.
The account display is a mathematical ceiling before agency balance precision, deductions and final-week decisions. A 16-week ceiling does not promise sixteen full payments. The one-year benefit window also does not create a year of payable weeks.
Optional withholding is shown separately. At $200 weekly and 10% withholding, the cash estimate is $180 per week. Tax withholding does not reduce the gross benefit account used for the draw calculation.
A business closing requires a separate approved account type
Section 96.3 provides half-wage credits when the last employer goes out of business at the premises where the claimant worked. Its 26-week closing branch also has a state indicator condition. Choose the type confirmed by IWD: ordinary one-third credits, approved closing with half credits and a 16-week ceiling, or an approved 26-week closing account.
A sale or transfer that keeps the business operating is not a qualifying closing under current administrative rule 24.22. A layoff alone does not justify selecting 26 weeks. The weekly divisor and dependent cap stay the same when a closing changes the account.
For the $6,900 wage record at $200 weekly, half credits are $3,450. An approved 26-week closing account can therefore be estimated at $3,450, compared with $2,300 ordinary. Extensions and approved training have separate conditions and are outside this full-week calculation.

Worked in a nearby state too?
Each state pays from the wages reported to it, so a claim follows where the covered work was done. If some of your base-period wages were earned in one of these states, open its worksheet, or compare every state on the unemployment benefits calculator.
Supported claim periods and annual handoff
The Iowa wage-estimate calendar supports 2026-07-05 to 2027-07-03. Source dates describe when evidence was checked; they do not create a legal expiration. A blank claim date uses the current local date. After a finite schedule ends, the form shows an explicit official-award worksheet. Enter the weekly award, maximum account and authorized weeks from the determination. An unverified successor rate is never copied from the previous annual table.
