Virginia: filing and evidence
Virginia is presented here in award-entry mode. Virginia Employment Commission reference material lists a Virginia ceiling of $430 weekly and 26 reference weeks, a pairing worth $11,180; neither figure proves monetary eligibility, payable weeks, or approval.

Virginia’s base-period wages are resolved by VEC from employer reports; the reference maximum cannot establish monetary eligibility.
Virginia claimant next action
File with VEC and compare the monetary determination to pay records before planning a claim. For Virginia, keep employer names, pay-stub dates, gross wages, separation details, and work-search records together; Virginia Employment Commission needs the Virginia record when checking base-period quarters and the monetary determination.

Choose the right VEC transaction
The Claimant Self-Service portal handles initial applications, reactivating an existing claim after a break, and continued weekly claims. A worksheet result does not perform any of those transactions.
- Starting a claim: follow the VEC application and login instructions.
- Challenging a decision: use the separate appeals process, not another calculator entry.
- Portal unavailable: VEC lists scheduled Wednesday maintenance from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Check the official service notice before retrying.
Virginia reads your benefit off a statutory table, not a formula
Most states publish an arithmetic rule for the weekly benefit amount. Virginia does not: the federal table records its computation simply as "listed in statute tables". Both the weekly amount and the number of payable weeks are looked up from a weighted schedule built on your two highest quarters.
- The weekly range is $112 to $430. Because the figure is tabulated rather than computed, small movements in quarterly wages can leave the weekly amount unchanged until the next step of the table.
- Duration is tabulated too. The maximum benefit amount is a weighted schedule of your two highest quarters mapped to a number of weeks, then multiplied by the weekly amount, producing a range of 12 to 26 weeks.
- Qualifying takes $3,000 across the two highest quarters. The test looks at those two quarters together rather than at total base-period wages.
- Part-time work: a flat $100 is ignored. One of the larger fixed disregards in the country, and unusually it does not scale with the benefit, so it is worth proportionally more at the bottom of the range.

The report states it is not an official interpretation of state UI laws, so treat these provisions as a cross-check on the Virginia Employment Commission determination rather than a replacement for it.
